Budget:
The complete Construction Project will cost -------------------- €
Location:
Egbekaw, Manyu Division, South West Region – Kamerun.
Long-term community development hinges upon the education of children. G. P. S. Egbekaw is located in a poor rural area of Manyu Division, in the Southwest Region of Cameroon. Development do not come easily to this remote part of Cameroon. The existing primary school in Egbekaw is so dilapidated that the roof and walls leak when it rains. This makes it unsafe for the children and teachers to attend school. Development is rare in this area as is evident from the pictures of G. P. S. Egbekaw Group 11. There are cracks throughout the buildings and the walls appear unstable and risk collapse. With children attending school in such dilapidated and run down structures, it is a miracle that there are no reported cases of accidents as a result of collapsed walls or roof. There are practically no adequate sanitation facilities for the many children and staff at G. P. S. Egbekaw Group 11. It is therefore not surprising that girls are mostly absent from school during their menstrual periods for lack of sanitary facilities to cater for their needs. This is very detrimental to their learning because in many cases girls absent themselves sometimes up to 3-5 days every month during their period. The classrooms are unsafe for the children to learn in with earthen floors, no windows and leaking roofs.
The foundation is not firm, it is very unstable and therefore very risky for the children who attend school at G. P. S. Egbekaw Group 11.
Solution:
The problem with this school can be resolved by constructing a new school, provide facilities for the children of G. P. S. Egbekaw to learn. This includes the construction of permanent classrooms, the provision of water tanks to provide the school with a safe and sustainable water source, as well as hygienic toilet blocks. The new school will reduce overcrowding and provide additional resources, such as desks and teaching materials, to facilitate improved education for the students. In addition, construction will provide much-needed jobs for suppliers and laborers in the community.
The Project aims to build:
- 7 classrooms
- 1 Head Teacher’s office
- 1 Staff room
- 1 store
- 6 toilet blocks
The permanent school buildings will include 7 classrooms and other facilities like toilets, etc and will cost a grand total of ---------------- €. This cost includes everything needed from start to finish, from permits, grading, and foundation laying to finishing touches like the windows, doors, toilets and roof.
Long-Term Impact:
An improved primary school environment will equip children with the knowledge and tools that they need to improve their own lives and that of their community. Building a new primary school in Egbekaw is an investment that will provide returns both for the hundreds of children who will attend this school and for the larger community. Also girls will readily attend school because the new school project will provide adequate sanitation facilities for these young girls to use during their periods.
Working together, one step at a time, with everyone contributing what they can, we can make this dream a reality.
Let's work together to build a school and change these children's future, and ultimately the future of the entire community.
