Fonge - Government School Fonge (G. S. Fonge) Project Proposal
Porject Cost: ....€
Project Description:
G. S. Fonge is located in a poor rural area of Lebialem Division, in the Southwest Region of Cameroon. The division covers an area of about 617 km² and has a total population of about 175,000.
In the village of Fonge, like most other surrounding villages in Lebialem division, there is a tremendous lack of resources in all areas and this is noticeable in schools (see pictures below). G. S. Fonge lacks sufficient classrooms and the few classrooms present are dilapidated temporary structures. There are no permanent classrooms or other facilities in the school. The children are learning in dilapidated structures without proper windows or doors, meaning during rainy season the wind and rain can often disturb their lessons. Their current classrooms are made of mud bricks and these buildings are in very poor condition. It is neither safe nor comfortable for these young children to learn, so they are not getting the best start to their education. Therefore it is of utmost importance that the village of Fonge has a new school structure to provide a safe and comfortable learning environment for the children in this very remote part of Cameroon.
Unsanitary school environment:
The school has no toilet blocks and the pupils and teachers are forced to find other means. The school ground gives unpleasant smell due to poor sanitary conditions. In order to improve sanitation in the school toilet blocks must be built.

Expected output:
The output of this project will depend on three parts: project management, labor, and monitoring. The project monitoring and management will be conducted by African Bridge Builders e.V. (ABB) in collaboration with the Fonge Village Community leaders. The labor will be carried out by the people of Fonge community, thereby providing employment opportunities for the people in the community.
Expected results:
- School building constructed on permanent structures.
- Supplying of teaching materials – ongoing activity.
- More and more children will get quality education – ongoing activity.
- Community will be developed and the lives of the people will also improve.
- Girls from local areas will have more life choices due to education.
- Better health:
The new facilities at Fonge village school, which include clean drinking water and toilets, will help to reduce the outbreak of diseases such as diarrhea. Students will also be taught about the importance of sanitation and hygiene practices. It is hoped that the wider community will understand the link between clean water and sanitation facilities in the new school and reduced outbreaks of disease and take a stronger interest in health and hygiene practices.
Conclusion:
This project is designed to produce maximum results. The vast majority of money will be used in purchasing building supplies. The local overhead costs are kept to the minimum. The local workers of this project will be chosen on the basis of their ability and a real passion for improving the educational opportunities for local children in the Fonge village community. We are confident that this project will have major and long lasting benefits for the Fonge village community and surrounding villages and that it will make a major contribution on poverty reduction.
We urgently need a partner to support some or all of the development at this school.
